In eighth grade, Dave Vondy's football coach, Doug Horton, convinced him to go out for the wrestling team. Doug was also the wrestling coach and saw the potential in Dave. Little did Dave know how much the sport would impact his life. He later went on to win three Colorado State Championships: two in wrestling and one in football. After graduating from Brush High School, he chose to attend Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado on a wrestling, football, and academic scholarship.
Dave returned to Northern Colorado four years later to compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships held at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. The former Colorado High School Wrestler of the Year came into the tournament unranked and unseeded. He came from behind in three matches to upset the No. 2, 3, and 5 seeds and was crowned a national champion in the city where he was born with the help of his parents, sister, family, friends, and coaches.
Wrestling has given Dave the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best coaches and athletes in the country. Dave has taken advantage of the opportunities to work various camps in Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and Colorado. Dave has also designed and created his own camp under the name of "Peak Performance Wrestling Camp." With the help of his coaches and teammates, he has been able to present camps for wrestlers who were dedicated to their own "Peak Performance!"
